And just like that, it's October.
The weather is shifting, and with recent rains, earlier sunsets, and the color changes of deciduous trees, the season is beautifully showcased throughout the inner East Bay and close to home, on a special block in Redwood Heights, Jordan Road. My current listing at 3529 Jordan Road is now pending after receiving two preemptive offers (submitted before the scheduled offer date).
To keep myself from watching too much news, I've been diving into books and shows. I just finished The Violin Conspiracy (on Audible) and started The Sicilian Inheritance. I recently loved Black Rabbit on Netflix and am now watching Task on HBO Max. (I am always looking for new books, records, and shows, so please share your favorites!)
I also tackled three major organizing projects - my clothes closet, linen closet, and garage. It was a total pain in the a++, but the result feels amazing. I highly recommend it. I rediscovered pieces I'd forgotten about and reconnected with my fall and winter wardrobe, which somehow makes everything feel fresh again.
I currently have the privilege of working with returning clients. The first time, when they helped their mother sell their longtime family home as she transitioned into assisted living. Now, they're selling the triplex they inherited from their parents, a property with a remarkable history.
2925 Dohr Street holds a rich piece of South Berkeley history. Built by Charles and Agnes ("Sweetie") Henderson, the great-aunt and great-uncle of the current owners, the property embodies a legacy of family, community, and care. Uncle Charles was a Pullman Porter, one of the most respected positions available to Black men in the 1940s and 1950s. The Hendersons purchased the lot, moved a home onto it, and later constructed 2925 Dohr Street as part of their vision for family housing.
In the 1960s, the current owners' parents purchased the building and continued that tradition, renting to relatives and members of their extended community. The neighborhood was home to at least five of their mother's relatives who had moved to the Bay Area from Oklahoma, creating a close-knit network that shaped the block for generations. For decades, the family intentionally kept rents low as their way of giving back to the community. Listed for $799,000, two of the units are vacant.
